The ESV Study Bible
Everybody needs a good Bible, and we would say this is the best Bible we’ve ever laid hands on.  The translation is solid, the printing and publishing is durable and of excellent quality, and the additional material (notes, articles, overviews, maps) are simply the best.  Though the full version is a beast to carry around, you can also find a personal size that is trimmed down and easier to manage.

“Desiring God” by John Piper
Piper’s ‘Desiring God’ is another standard – it is a manifesto on Christian hedonism, or the idea that God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him.  In it, Piper walks through major topics in the Christian life and explores how we are to hold Christ as supreme in those areas by being satisfied in him, thus bringing him much glory.  It’s a great read, and was recently republished in a 25th anniversary edition.

“Mere Christianity” by C.S. Lewis
I’m pretty sure “Mere Christianity” was a instant classic when it was first published.  It’s an awesome examination about the fundamental principles of our faith in Christ, and why we are inclined to believe the way we do.  Lewis addresses a ton of great questions and gives thought-provoking answers that get to the real heart of the issues at hand, and it’s written in an approachable conversation-over-a-cup-of-coffee tone.
