I was born and raised in Texas, and when I was seven years old I prayed that Christ would save me from my sin. It took some time for that reality to work itself out into all of my life, and even though I am far from perfect I am fully alive in Christ. I was dead in sin, and now I live in the newness of life with Jesus.
God called me into ministry as a sophomore at Texas A&M University, and I responded by laying down my wants and dreams to pursue what he had for me. In dying to myself I’ve found more joy, freedom, fulfillment, and peace than I would’ve ever had if left to my own devices. Declaring death to life was the most life-changing thing I’ve ever done.
God then led me to Fort Worth, Texas where I attended seminary at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and CityView Church. During that season God gave me a burden to teach the Scriptures well, to communicate the gospel in every aspect of life, and to love and serve those to whom God would call me. I served as an intern at CityView, and eventually became the Pastor for Spiritual Formation in September 2009.
As I prayed with some dear friends about my next steps in ministry, God gave us a heart for the people and culture of Springfield, Missouri. I moved there in July 2010 after graduating from Southwestern, and began a church planting internship at LifePoint Church in Ozark, Missouri. God has called me to help plant Redeemer Church – a gospel-centered, Bible-preaching, Jesus-glorifying church in North Springfield. My calling, passion, and desire is to help others move from death into eternal life by declaring death to this earthly life just as God has done with me.
I met my beautiful, sweet wife Melissa at LifePoint in May 2011 as we were developing our core group for Redeemer, and we married in October 2012. We currently live in Springfield where I serve as one of the pastors of Redeemer Church.
I like hot black coffee, deep theology, dry humor, learning about history, reading (especially the Bible), hunting, fishing, west Texas sunsets, cold weather, snow-capped mountains, leading men, and being a husband to my wife. My favorite authors are: D.A. Carson, John Piper, Mark Driscoll, C.S. Lewis, R.C. Sproul, John Owen, Jonathan Edwards, C.H. Spurgeon, and Mark Twain.
I’ve been called husband, son, brother, proud uncle, teacher, student, pastor, leader, sinner, and Christ-follower. My name is Nathan. Feel free to call me whatever you like.
